The crash happened in the northbound lanes near mile marker 33 in Manheim Township on Friday, Oct. 28, around 5:17 p.m., as detailed in the release.
A 69-year-old man from Lititz had been riding a motorcycle when he changed lanes but continued drifting off the right side of the road, striking a guide rail— coming off the bike, township police explain citing witnesses.
"The motorcycle then continued on its own for several hundred feet before coming to a rest," the police say.
When the police arrived they "found a doctor and another witness performing CPR on the rider," but ultimately "the rider succumbed to his injuries at the scene," police state in the release.
The Lancaster County coroner’s office responded to the scene and the roadway was closed for several hours while investigators conducted a crash reconstruction.
